As part of our Maths work this term, we have been learning all about 3D shapes.
We have been sorting and describing them by their properties. Most recently, we have been making our own 3D shapes. We had to make the faces for our shape using the straws which acted as the edges. Then we put them together and decorated our shapes with coloured tissue!
We have had great fun making our shapes and they look superb! Well done Lowry Class!
In Science, we have been learning about sound.
We learnt that when we clap we make the air around us vibrate causing the molecules in the air to bump into each other. We pretended to be the molecules in the air and then we bumped into each other when Mr Bonar clapped to show this. Then talked about the molecules in a solid and investigated whether sound travelled better through solids, like the table in class, or the air. Mr Bonar knocked the table and we listened. We then put our ear on the table and Mr Bonar knocked again. We found out that the sound was much clearer when we heard it through the table!
We learnt that this is because the molecules are much closer together in a solid which explained why we could hear our friend talking using the string-can telephones!
This week we welcomed a visitor to our class!
PC Nick came into our class to talk to us about internet safety. We talked about the things we do using the internet. We then watched a cartoon showing what can happen on the internet if we don’t follow SID’s Top Tips!
We learnt that not everyone is who they say they are, that you must be nice, don’t give out our personal information and that if we get an ‘uh-oh’ feeling in our tummy, we need to tell someone! We created some posters to help us remember SID’s Top Tips!
We would like to thank PC Nick for coming into our class to tell us all about how to be safe on the internet.
